Ian & John

We wanted you to know that Stan is absolutely by far the best dog we have ever had, and we have had quite a few spaniels in our time. We are so glad we found him. His only problem is that he steals food, but we can forgive him that. He still doesn’t like being left but he is better than he was. We don’t really leave him on his own as he is with us all the time, wherever we go but occasionally we may have to leave him for short periods and he copes with that. We will never put him in kennels as we are sure he would fret but he has stayed with a dog minder when we went abroad and he loved being there. We have just found a new minder since we have moved and will be trying her out shortly but she has several spaniels herself and breeds cockers so I think he will be fine.

We are also very happy with Freya, who is still a bit nervous of other people but brilliant with us and has wormed her way into our affections as well. When she is out on a walk she is a different dog - a typical busy working spaniel. She is a very happy little dog.

We moved 2 years ago to the Lake District so both dogs are in heaven and we own a 10 acre field next to the house, so they have plenty of room to roam. They are also both very good with the sheep the farmer puts in the field from time to time. Neither seem the slightest bit interested in sheep and it gives us a bit of confidence that they won’t be chasing sheep when we out on a walk, although of course we keep them on the lead if we see sheep about.

I hope you will be able to keep up the good work. Times are hard for many organisations at the moment. We certainly appreciate your efforts.

regards

Rachel & Alan

Only one week since Zac came to live with us and already, we are solving some of his issues. Firstly, he was not fully house trained but with encouragement, including treats for good behaviour this has been quickly solved. He has always been clean at night. He is so excited on his twice/thrice daily walks and pulls on the lead. Kevin is using Graham Hall's technique and I have ordered a halti - improvements are being seen. I groomed Zac on day three. He was very compliant but once the hair was off it revealed just how thin he was. We are feeding twice a day and his spine + ribs are starting to fade away.

Zac is bird obsessed. He sits next to our glass doors staring out at the birds until it goes dark - no problem. On his walks he is constantly excited by rooks, seagulls, starlings and anything else with wings. This does not help with lead training. In the house he is quiet and really very loving. Rosie has reacted well to him but puts him in his place when necessary. They do not fight and keep themselves separate. He, of course, learns what is expected of him by watching Rosie. We were told he would not wear a slip lead - he will - no problem there. Zac barks at visitors or at people who get too close to him in the street. It is not aggression but anxiety + fear. It is my belief that he suffered harsh treatment - possibly physical punishment in his previous life. There will be none of that here.

Zac's microchip details have arrived and I have registered him at our veterinary practice.

Once again, thank you for allowing us to rehome Zac. We promise, always, to take the best care of him.
