Gone But Not Forgotten

GUINNESS

Dear John

I write to let all at CAESSR know that our lovely Cocker Spaniel Guinness had to be put to sleep last week. Guinness had been diagnosed with kidney disease and after bravely soldiering on for a many weeks we finally decided that he had suffered enough. He was just short of his tenth birthday.

Guinness came to us in April 2012, and quickly became not just a part of our family, but central to it. He took to country life with relish, enjoying long walks in the nearby woods or along the river, and loved the local beaches. He would spend many hours laying in the sun, barking in a friendly manner at anyone who passed our garden to let them know who was boss.

Guinness was almost permanently in a sunny mood and seems just happy to be alive. He would often lie in the living room seemingly fast asleep, but if anyone in the family laughed, or spoke his name his tail would wag, giving the game away. It was when his tail stopped wagging that we know it was time.

We only had Guinness for four years but we feel privileged to have shared a part of our lives with such a lovely, good natured dog.

Very Best Regards

BERTIE

We adopted Bertie from yourselves in February 2011. He fitted immediately into our home and was much loved. He was wary of other dogs when he first came to us but became a little more sociable with others the longer we had him.

He was best friends with my daughters 2 dogs, Millie and Freddie, another springer and a staffy. They were inseparable when out on walks/runs together. Bertie discovered he could swim and loved nothing more than a swim in a local disused reservoir before taking off in to the hills.

Sadly Bertie died in January but he will always be remembered and I thank all at caessr for allowing us to look after him.

MIA

Dear all at CAESSR

It is with sadness that we had to have our beautiful Mia put to sleep. We are heartbroken and miss our lovely little girl every day.

During the month of July Mia was hospitalised with Pancreatitis and appeared to be recovering. Then in September she became ill again and the tests showed she had autoimmune Pancreatitis which is an incurable condition. She was a fighter and, whilst the vets did everything they could to save her, Mia's little body gave up on 23rd September.

She was such a happy and adorable little Cocker Spaniel who enriched our lives. Mia had wonderful holidays in Cornwall and North Norfolk, long walks and trips to the seaside. We have wonderful memories to treasure of our precious Mia who was dearly loved and gave us so much happiness.

With all good wishes

KATIE

Dear John,

Gorgeous Katie sadly had a stroke two weeks ago and passed away peacefully in my arms. She was 15, deaf and a bit blind. We rescued her last year and we couldn't have ever imagined how a very active Springer Spaniel would enrich our lives . She was found abandoned in an empty house and taken to a local rescue kennel where she stayed for a few months. She was moved to the Cocker and Springer Spaniel Rescue, in June last year. From there we got her and we don't know if Katie was her real name or she was given that name at her first rescue place. So, every week she had a new name, most of the time it was just Silly Dog. We also used to call her Tete or Tutu. We thank her for all the fun, love, licks, barks, crazy walks, slobber, loud snoring and general springyness. Till the end she couldn't stop eating treats; such a Spaniel. We love you so much big ears...

John have you got the name of the previous kennel and any more information about the house where Katie was found (what county etc). I am writing an article about Katie and rescue dogs and I would love any further information.

Many, many thanks for rescuing her. She was so loved by my boys, we can't believe how gentle she was. Also she was a lovely friend to Laika our blind working Cocker.

GORGIE

Hi John and all at CAESSR

We are very sad to let you know that our gorgeous Gorgie passed away peacefully on Friday morning at the grand old age of 17 years, 1 month and 13 days.

Gorgie was adopted by ourselves on the 19th September 2011 from CAESSR after being surrendered by his previous owner.

Gorgie not only proved himself a valuable and much loved member of our family, but was a wonderful advocate of rescue dogs, especially older ones. He was a credit to his breed and colour. Although, we as a family are devastated by the loss of such a wonderful dog, our sadness is lessened by our gratefulness of being able to spend nearly four amazing years with him. We will love and remember him forever, and will always be eternally grateful to CAESSR for entrusting us with him.

Thank you.
